What I do not get is why he opened the door. Maybe I would have too i don't know. And "fumbling" with the gun? Good for him but clearly common sense and training could have ended this differently.

Never open the door! Dont get me wrong that was clearly justified in my eyes, but dont give the suspect an entry point. He then gave him a warning shot by accidently firing a shot. The suspect was up to no good and made his own decision to die at that point. I am really happy about the "castle doctrine" and wish every state would adopt the law.
He got what he deserved. I bet he wont bust up into anyone elses home, will he? Nope, over and done with.
