Thief Tries to Sell Stolen $20,000 Gun on Reality TV

A New Mexico man attempted to sell a stolen antique gun to the gun trading reality show American Guns, but the only thing he managed to get out of the deal was a pair of handcuffs.

A Colt Dragoon black powder revolver from the 1800s was stolen from a private museum last December. Police were unable to track down the thief or the gun, which is valued at $20,000. All hope of catching the culprit was lost until the culprit walked onto national TV and showed the world that he was in possession of stolen property.

In an amazing move of criminal stupidity, Wylie Newton brought the stolen Colt Dragoon to members of the reality TV show American Guns, and attempted to sell it. Unfortunately for Newton, people who watch TV also read the newspaper from time to time. Some of the fans knew about a stolen Cold Dragoon revolver, put two and two together, and phoned up the police.

The police tracked Wylie back to his hometown of Erie, a feat that was probably made easier by the fact that Wylie used his real name on the television show (wow, what a guy). They set up a sting operation pretending to be gun buyers. The cops arrested Newton and hauled him off to Jefferson Country Detention Center in New Mexico when Newton produced the gun.

Newton's been in jail before, so he's got a long history of screwing up. Talk about a criminal mastermind. You should be able to view the video here.

Amazing what stupid people will do. Nice find on the story.
Wow!! I'm amazed, I saw that episode and that guy acted so normal. Unbelievable!!!
I've watched shows where Dragoons were valued MUCH higher. I saw that episode also. I hate that show for a few reasons but can't hate to much because it IS a gun show on TV. The more the better.
Hate the show...watch it every damn time !!

Why is that...? Guess I'm just amazed it's still on !

Them and red jacket bug the hell out of me but like stated earlier IT IS a gun show and there's not a lot to choose from...
I refuse to watch Sons of Guns.

Watching "Sons of Guns" is like watching "C.O.P.S." It shows you exactly what NOT to do.

They need a new show. Shooting with the Stars sounds soooo much better than Dancing...

Lol!! I'm agree!!
Sorry guys. I like American Guns, love to see their different type of weapons and how they negotiate. But I do hate a lot Son of Guns!
The first season of sons of guns was the best. I don't like the way the show producers edit in all the "drama." That ruins the show just like discovery did with American Choppers.......SR. Vs. Jr. Really!!!'

I'm agree, I hope American Guns don't turn out to be a melodrama just like the majority of the new TV shows.
Another TV show that I think is great for now is Duck Dynasty....

Son of A Gun- Interesting choice for a show title. Obviously not well vetted.

The phrase has it's origin from the grand days of the British Navy. Lord Nelson eh what. It was common practice for ships of the line to welcome women on board, to include prostitutes. The sailors & their women would recreate on the gun decks, between the naval cannons. The resulting children would be raised in orphanages sponsored by the British Navy. When the boys grew physically strong enough to carry a powder charge, they were brought back to the ships they were conceived on, and put to work as powder monkeys, 8 to 10 years old was the norm. Since a young boy was much faster & more agile than a grown man, this policy radically increased the cyclic rate of fire in a surface battle. As soon as the "T" was crossed, the British ship would come about & grapple the lead enemy ship, pulling it close, firing all cannons in repeated broadsides until the enemy was battered into submission & struck it's colors. Rate of fire determined the victor, and the Brits were the fastest because of their nimble young powder monkeys, of "Sons of Guns", as they were called. Many were lost though, because there are two sides to every gunfight. Just the way of things.
