Official: Battalion commander dead in Fort Bragg shooting
By NBC News services
A U.S. Army official confirms to NBC News that there was a shooting at about 3:30 p.m. ET at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
At least one person has been shot near the 18th Airborne Headquarters in a "distinctly military headquarters area," the official said.
A senior US defense official told NBC that the deceased victim is a battalion commander. There is no indication of motive at this time, but the incident does not appear to be terrorist-related.
Law enforcement are on the scene, and Fort Bragg officials have said on
Facebook that the post is not on lockdown. No further information has been released.
