As you may have read, I made this magazine modification to my 44 mags, well today I took it to the range and went through 280 rounds of ammo total...that's 28 magazines loaded, and I never once experienced any 'first-round nosedive' or failure to feed. Every time I loaded the mags they were ready to go, no first-round up/down sloppiness at all, never had to make any adjustments, no 'upside down magazine shake'...just load and go...ZERO magazine issues, and I used these two mags exclusively.

This was no surprise to me, as I knew the mod would work perfectly. If you allow the second and third rounds from the top to 'kick out' to the side a bit more in those slots, that top round will always have perfect tension holding it up.

What completely shocked me, however, was the day and night difference between the two brands of ammo I was shooting. The Winchester M22 I have been using lately is 'copper-washed' ammo, you would think that means it's cleaner shooting, but I've had a lot of fouling/leading in the barrel using it. Had to scrub the barrel after four or five mags every time, and often it's tough to initially force the brush through. Now, the Blazer is Round Lead Nose (I think) and it left the barrel completely clean after 150 rounds of it. So the copper washed was leading up after only 50-60 rounds, and the lead bullets were shooting clean, go figure.

NO LEADING or fouling on the barrel crown with the Blazer ammo, which also surprised me, because I've always had leading in the crown area from that Winchester. Here it is, clean as the day it came from the factory -

So yea, it's going to be Blazer ammo for me. I'll shoot through this M22 stuff and be done with it.
Mag mods work, Blazer ammo works, good day at the range. Maybe I'll do it again tomorrow.

Then again, it's going to be Friday the 13th tomorrow. Maybe I shouldn't push my luck.

Good to hear, five six years bak I scored ten bricks of blazer for 15.99 a brick and it's a favorite in most of my 22's especially the G 44.

I am stuck with the Winchester M22 from years ago. I shoot it in my old Marlin M60.

You might be okay with it, I used M22 a few years back and don't remember it fouling up like the recent stuff I've purchased, so there might be some difference between the new and old M22 ammo, don't know what it is, but something has changed.

UPDATE -

Hit the range again today....now, normally if I run strictly M22 ammo, the barrel will always lead up between 50-60 rounds, somewhere in that range....since I have A LOT of M22 still around, I bought a 800-round box of Federal Premium Champion 40gr LRN (lead round nose) and then loaded the mags to capacity with one round of M22, then one round of Federal, alternating back and forth, staggered like that.

Pleased to report the barrel was absolutely clean after several hundred rounds.
