GLOCK : PG-FML A year or so ago, this base pad to fill the front strap cutout on Glock 17,19 etc. that had the front strap cutout, was too tall to allow the TEN Rd. GEN 5 magazine to seat high enough to lock in place.
Has anyone had this problem, Or to your knowledge has Pearce corrected this problem? I know this occurred because a friend had this occur and Pearce had him send them back and they adjusted them with hand tools I believe.
Thank you

Make sure you didn’t buy the gen.2 versions. I think they are different then the generation 5 ones.

Thanks, however I had 1st called Pearce and was informed that this specific part# would fit. It's probably because the Gen 5 has a completely new mold for the receiver(flared mag well). I guess I will call Pearce for a fix to this situation.

Here is my conversation with Pearce yesterday.

The product you will need for your Glock 19 Gen 5 is the PG-19G5 or the PG-G5BP. Thank you for your interest in our products.
Pearce Grip

Here is a pic of the change you may need to make to your PG-G5BP. You will need to sand off just a little of the front forward surfaces. You only need to remove the equivalent of 1-2 sheets of paper. Hopefully the picture will explain it better that I have.

I was told use a Dremel tool to remove material from both sides so it clears sides of front of frame. See picture on left. Why should I have to do it? Why not fix the mold?

Note: The PG-19G5 that I do not want extends lower for those with larger hands but increases length of grip, defeating the benefit of the G19 over the G17. But the PG-19G5 per Pearce fits perfectly from the factory.

Molds for plastic parts are extremely expensive... generally, a few to several tens of thousands of dollars.

My guess is that fixing the mold is cost prohibitive... that is, by their projections, they won't sell enough of that particular part to make a profit. So, their solution is to continue to use their current mold and address the parts that won't fit by having the customer 'custom fit' them.

Being profit driven, Pearce discontinued the PG-36 because...

"Our PG-36 tooling was damaged in the last run and could not be fixed. The cost of a new tool was not feasible considering the number of PG-36's we sell."

Also, in my opinion, Pearce has engineering problems... that is, they seem to have more than their fair share of design issues.

For example...

"I put 2 Pearce grips on my gen 5 mags. They are suppose to hold 12 rounds but it only holds 11."

All the above said, a bit of careful filing/sanding should 'fix' the fit.

Good luck! :)

Thanks Bob,
My dealer has the PG-G5BP in stock and will trim the floor plate sides for me. So I believe my problem is solved except for being forced last year by the New NJ Democratic Governor Phil Murphy who had six anti gun bills passed last June including reducing limit from 15 to 10 round mag capacity. He originally wanted 5 rd. That would have affected 6 rd. revolvers. But like most of us, we live where our careers and families are situated.
