The saga continues ! I personally do not like the .222 in any form ! I also really don't want to give up any of my remaining cadet actions! I think I may have convinced Betty into buying a 788 Remington chambered in .223 and just rebarreling it to 6x47 ! My brother has got one (788 in .223 ) and he owes me a couple of favors so she'll get it cheap ! Fingers crossed !
Passing the Baton
Recently on a Trip to our capital city (Adelaide ) I took the opportunity to visit my Barrel Guys workshop .I dropped off a .22 Hornet Barrel to be reamed out to K Hornet and ordered a 7x57 barrel ! I must admit to being a little annoyed about the 7mm as a couple of years ago I had what was then a 7x57 rechambered for 8x57 ! I sold the rifle to my Granddaughter not long after and on a recent hunting trip she had the opportunity to fire a 7x57 Mauser and fell in love with the round ! She decided to have her rifle rebarreled back to 7 mm ! Oh if I'd known ! I think the 7x57 suffers as a lot of shooters still have barrels with the original throat which is that deep it would put Linda love lace to shame, as the round used to use those long projectiles! Set up properly for modern projectiles the little 7mm is a grand round !
I was going to fit the barrels myself but have decided to teach her how to fit and headspace both barrels ! She has leant how to bed actions and float barrels and crown muzzles ! I think it's important to pass these skills on as I won't be around forever ! Her elder brother joined the Army and is training to be an armourer which will give him the grounding to become an Gunsmith ! I know my way around a lathe and milling machine but I wouldn't call myself an tradesman by any means and my skills as a gunsmith have been handed down to me by a family member some years ago! I'm hoping that both kids will continue on that pathway

I've ended up getting that 788 from my brother in Lieu of payment for some truck driving I did for him ! I figured he was never going to pay me anyway ! There was a little bit of blackmail involved but his agreed ! So we're square.
Went down to the Police station today and put in the permit to purchase for the 788 ! To save a lot of hassle I put it in Betty's name ! Explained to my Mate who is in charge of the Firearms section that it's going to be rechambered ,so we might as well register it as the 6x47! Save the paperwork later ! He somewhat rudely asked what the catch was ? I asked what did he mean and he answered that normally, I buy a firearm wait several months and then apply to rechamber/modify it ! This causes no end of paperwork for his dept! I did suggest we could still do it that way ! He declined and we did the paperwork as the new calibre! Then rang my Barrel guy and ordered a medium weight barrel ! I ordered it as if Betty did she'd be charged public prices not trade !
