The Next Gen AR-15 Mag from SENTRY Products Group

The SENTRY™ Hexmag Carbon Fiber AR-15 Mag uses a proprietary blend of Carbon Fiber for a stronger, lighter AR-15 magazine.

Virginia Beach, Va. (February 2021) – After the acquisition of the Hexmag brand in 2017 SENTRY Products Group set out to refine and expand their magazine and on gun accessory line. The most recent advancement is SENTRY’s Carbon Fiber AR-15 magazine, made from a proprietary carbon fiber composite blended with our Polyhex2 polymer, offering exceptional durability and consistent performance. While Hexmag’s polymer magazines are known for exceptional reliability and resiliency, the introduction of Carbon Fiber significantly increases the overall strength and rigidity which further enhances performance. An added benefit to the end-user is that Carbon Fiber reduces the total weight by 20 percent over the standard magazine.
As with all Hexmag products the new Carbon Fiber AR-15 Mag features the patented Hexture pattern for confident and positive grip, no matter the environmental conditions. With the industry’s first tool-less takedown design, the magazines can be easily cleaned and maintained. A heat-treated stainless-steel spring eliminates corrosion and resists fatigue even while loaded for long periods of time. Customization can be done through Hexmag’s True-Riser system to create State compliant 10, 15, and 30-round configurations; and with the SENTRY HexID color identification system, the user can quickly identify caliber and ammo type through the coded safety system featuring high visibility followers and latch plate.
Available in black with an MSRP of $21.99 you can find this product through Midway, RSR, and the SENTRY’s website www.sentrytactical.com.

Montenegrin TARA TM-9 Pistol Now Available in the USA

Tara TM-9 (2)

Back in 2013, we published an article telling about the first generation of the Montenegrin Tara TM-9 pistol. Since then this handgun has been revised and updated multiple times and its latest iteration is now available in the USA via a US distributor called TARA Tactical USA. In this article, we’ll take a look at the design and features of this newest version of Tara TM-9 pistol.

The Tara TM-9 is a striker-fired polymer-framed handgun chambered in 9x19mm. It is a locked-breech short barrel recoil pistol with a tilting barrel lockup. The pistol is made by the small arms division of a Montenegrin aerospace company called TARA Aerospace AD. The experience and capabilities of manufacturing aerospace products allow the company to make these pistols to tight tolerances. The tight barrel-to-slide lockup is advertised to make the gun extremely accurate and the low bore axis (22mm (.865″)) to minimize the muzzle flip and allow for fast follow-up shots.
Tara TM-9 (4)

Some of the upgrades incorporated into the design of the latest generation frames of TM-9 pistols are the removed finger grooves, extended beavertail and honeycomb pattern on the grip and on support hand thumb / primary hand index finger shelves. The slide rails are on two separate metal blocks inserted into the frame. The company opted not to mold the slide rails into the frame to prevent them from being affected by frame flex during firing the gun. The frame also features a double undercut trigger guard, lanyard attachment provision, 1913 accessory rail and interchangeable backstraps. The pistol is fed from 17-round metal magazines and has an ambidextrous magazine release button.
The barrel and slide of the Tara TM-9 pistol are machined out of solid stainless steel bars and along with other metal parts feature a special surface treatment that allows the company to give a 50,000 rounds guarantee on all main parts of the pistol. The slide has front and rear cocking serrations. The angled surfaces on the front portion of the slide are another difference from previous generation guns. The improved extractor has an extension that works as a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator. Tara TM-9 pistol weighs in at 800 grams (28 oz) unloaded and has the following dimensions: length – 187mm (7.36″); height – 139mm (5.47″); width – 30mm (1.18″); barrel length – 113mm (4.45″); sight radius – 165mm (6.5″).
Tara TM-9 (5)

One of the most interesting design features of the Tara TM-9 pistol is the patented trigger mechanism called DASR (Double Action Short Release). It is sort of a hybrid of double-action-only (DAO) and double-action/single-action (DA/SA) triggers. The gun always fires the first round in double-action mode but the trigger has two reset points. When the gun is fired and the trigger is let forward all the way, it will reset to double-action again. However, if the trigger is released by about .25″, kind of half-way, it will click into an intermediate reset point and can be pulled back again with a lighter and shorter single-action pull.
Resetting to DAO every time the trigger is completely released means that when the gun is not being fired, the striker is completely decocked. This, in conjunction with the striker blocking mechanism, ensure ultimate safety virtually eliminating the chances of an accidental discharge due to a cocked or semi-cocked striker slipping off of the sear. And of course, another feature of the DAO trigger mechanism is the ability to strike the primer again in case of a misfire without the need to rack the slide. DAO trigger of Tara TM-9 pistol also allows starting the disassembly of the gun without the need for pulling the trigger first.
Check Prices on Tara TM-9 Pistols
The MSRP of the Tara TM-9 pistol is $529. The pistol comes in a nylon case with three magazines and three different size backstraps. It is compatible with Safariland ALS and SLS Glock 17 holsters. A compact version of this pistol (TM-9C) may become available in the future as well.

Palmetto State Armory just advertised these recently ;

It might come as no surprise to most of you that the Glock 19 still remains one of the most popular semi-auto striker-fired handguns on the market. What may surprise you, however, is that the Browning Hi-Power turned out to be one of the most popular selling used guns on the market. I have little experience with the handgun myself but I have heard nothing but good things about them which may be why they ended up first on the list for used handguns.

While it may not come as a surprise, I do find that the Ruger 57 making the list is kind of odd mostly because it is such a niche firearm in a niche caliber. However, it being number 5 on the list for new guns being purchased could be a solid indication that the market is slowly warming up to a possible resurgence of 5.7x28mm handguns. Either way, I thought the list was fascinating, and I feel like most of the new handguns deserve their spots on the list. If you’re interested in purchasing any of these handguns from Gunbroker.com there are links beside each of the firearms for a tailored search.

Swamp Fox has gone from dismissed cheap optics to a mid grade tier optic. The guys there are really trying hard to stand out in a crowded field.
they announced they are working on a 5x prism scope and a 1.5x

they showed a prototype of the 1.5x and said they still werent sure if enough demand was there. The 5x is still in development stages although they did show a rendering

Like they said in the video, there is a following for the prism sights. AK Operators Union really like the prism scopes. Mainly they use the Primary Arms models.
I remember hearing guys complaining that the 1.5 variables would give them literally headaches while scanning, mostly during hog hunts. Could be how you use them and the individual specifically.
The 5X is interesting, I wonder how well they’ll sell?

Blackhawk Releases New Stache IWB Concealment Holster
February 22nd, 2021

Ambidextrous and Modular Holster Gives Shooters Flexibility While Carrying

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – February 22, 2021 – Blackhawk®, a leader in law enforcement and military equipment for over 20 years, has announced the release of its new Stache™ IWB Concealment Holster. Meticulously engineered, this Inside the Waistband (IWB) holster is the ultimate solution for everyday carry, with the perfect balance of comfort, rigidity, and modularity.
Constructed with impact-reinforced, injection-molded polymer, the Stache IWB outperforms the design and material limitations of Kydex® holsters at a price that doesn’t break the bank. With its ambidextrous design, the Stache IWB also gives both right- and left-handed shooters a comfortable and versatile carry option. The Stache also comes standard with a low-profile shirt guard for added comfort without inhibiting the draw stroke.
“If the holster isn’t comfortable, eventually the carrier will choose a different holster – or worse, stop carrying entirely,” said Justin Hoffman, Blackhawk product manager. “We want people to carry, which is why we developed the Stache.”
Designed to never be seen, the Stache gives users unparalleled comfort and firearm security. The Stache utilizes an optional concealment claw to reduce printing and to add a greater level of stability when carried.
“The concealment claw uses opposing leverage on the interior of the belt, so as the belt pulls the holster in, the claw pushes out,” said Hoffman. “By harnessing this leverage, the pistol grip is pulled in toward the body, reducing printing. By changing out the different sized leverage pads provided, users can tailor the concealment factor to their gun, their body type, and their preference.”
Additional features on the Stache include a 1.5-inch J-style belt clip for secure attachment, as well as height and cant adjustment for both the holster and the optional magazine carrier. Available in Base and Premium configurations, the holster is compatible with a variety of other Blackhawk IWB carry accessories and with Discreet Carry Concepts Gear Clips™.
Optics ready, the Stache IWB is designed to accept popular handgun mounted red dot sights. Multiple variations of the Stache IWB Holster are available to fit a wide range of handguns including the GLOCK 17, GLOCK 19, GLOCK 43, GLOCK 48, SIG SAUER P365, S&W M&P 2.0, S&W Shield, Colt Commander, Taurus G2C and Ruger LC9.
“The Stache was designed by concealed carriers, for concealed carriers,” concluded Hoffman. “When you put it on, carry it and train with it, you will understand why.”
MSRP for the Stache IWB Holster is $39.95 for the Base option and $64.95 for the Premium configuration. For more information about the Stache IWB Holster including in-depth product videos, imagery and specs, visit Blackhawk.com.

ATF Reclassifies TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Receiver as a Machine Gun
ATF Reclassifies TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Receiver as a Machine Gun

A lot of you will be familiar with the TommyBuilt Tactical T36 which is basically a replica conversion H&K G36. The T36 is an expensive but popular choice of firearm for those who want to enjoy some of that sweet German engineering without having to convert an SL8 on their own or go through the trouble of attempting to import a genuine G36. Unfortunately, the ATF recently determined that the methods by which TommyBuilt Tactical machined the T36 receivers were not sufficient enough to prevent easy full-auto conversions and has reclassified the receivers as machine guns. TommyBuilt’s full press-release and explanation of the situation is posted below.
ATF Reclassifies TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Receiver as a Machine Gun

ATF Reclassifies TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Receiver as a Machine Gun
Dear TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Owner:Greetings. We hope that you are enjoying your TommyBuilt Tactical T36, and want to thank you for your patronage.
With that said, we have received unfortunate news that the receiver of the T36 will now be classified by ATF as a machinegun receiver. ATF has recently determined that the blocks and restrictions manufactured into our semi-automatic receiver (which are a replica of the SL8 prevention method) are not sufficient and now require an auto sear block on this platform. We disagree with this position but do not make the regulatory decisions.
To this end, we at TommyBuilt Tactical are eager to work with our T36 owners and with the ATF to comply with the newly mandated requirements for this platform. Our counsel and team have met with our regulator to make attempts to resolve this issue. TommyBuilt Tactical has made and had approved by the ATF an upgraded semi-automatic receiver including more restrictive blocks, the newly required auto sear block and other various upgrades.
So we are clear, there is no current intent by ATF to criminally charge any TommyBuilt Tactical T36 owner for the possession of contraband, or to prosecute TommyBuilt Tactical for any wrongdoing. To this end, my team and I have been authorized by ATF to replace the existing T36 receivers with an upgraded “TG36” receiver. There will be a minimal cost to you of $225 to upgrade to the new TG36. It is critical that you send your receiver to me for an upgrade. The ATF has made it clear that if your T36 is not returned for upgrade to the TG36, it will be considered contraband and subject to seizure.
Once seized you will lose your entire T36 assembly. The resolution that we are offering will allow you to keep ALL of your components in an upgraded state at a minimal cost.
We are a small business and already overwhelmed. This unexpected determination is a substantial financial hardship for us all. Please refer to our website (www.tommybuilttactical.com) for more details on this situation and instructions on exactly how to send in your receiver for replacement.
Again, we appreciate your patience and understanding.
ATF Reclassifies TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Receiver as a Machine Gun

While this is par for the course with the ATF, I have to wonder if arbitrary decisions like this will start to become more common as time goes on. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like current owners will be criminally charged with anything for simple possession of something that was perfectly legal to manufacture and sell just a few days ago, but it is still frustrating to see things like this happen with alarming frequency.
———————————————————
My 2 cents, The BATFE is just ridiculous and is going beyond the scope of a regulatory agency.
Tommy built shouldn’t charge the current owners anything, it’s not like these guns are inexpensive. Owners pay a serious amount for the guns in the first place.

Brazil’s IMBEL and Taurus Announce Partnership
Brazil's IMBEL and Taurus Announce Partnership

IMBEL & Taurus memorandum of understanding
Two of Brazil’s biggest firearms manufacturers have announced the formation of a partnership for the development of products and services. IMBEL and Taurus have signed a memorandum of understanding which opens the way for the development of new products, production methods and marketing so we’re likely to see the companies work closely on various military, paramilitary and police tenders and contracts.

The non-binding, non-equity memorandum was signed at IMBEL’s headquarters in Brasilia and will last for five years with the rolling option to renew it for another five at the end. Infodefensa report that a renewal of the understanding would require a “contractual additive” between the companies – perhaps formalising the partnership.
It’s unclear what, if any, impact it might have on IMBEL and SIG Sauer’s discussion of a partnership to produce the P320 in Brazil.
Brazil's IMBEL and Taurus Announce Partnership
IMBEL and Taurus memorandum of understanding
Here’s IMBEL’s announcement of the memorandum of understanding (machine translated):
Brasília (DF) – The Brazilian Military Material Industry (IMBEL®) – the country’s first Strategic Defense and Security Company – and TAURUS ARMAS – Strategic Defense Company with 80 years of history – signed this Monday, 1st of February 2021, a Memorandum of Understanding dealing with the establishment of a non-equity partnership for the development, industrialization and joint marketing of products and services from both companies.
IMBEL® and TAURUS added their efforts in order to strengthen and boost Brazil’s Industrial Defense and Security Base, in line with the National Defense Policy and Strategy.
The signing of the partnership took place at IMBEL® Headquarters in Brasília, DF, and was attended by the Director-President of the Brazilian Military Material Industry, General Aderico Mattioli, of the President – Global CEO – of Taurus Armas, Mr. Salesio Nuhs and Directors of both companies.
The memorandum comes as foreign companies have continued to gain a market foothold in Brazil and South America in general with Beretta, Glock, FN, IWI and Steyr making sales to the region in recent years. IMBEL and Taurus are major manufacturing concerns with Taurus exporting around the world and fulfilling large pistol contracts with Brazil’s security forces. IMBEL is a state-owned operation and since their founding in the early 1930s have come to provide the Brazilian military’s service rifles. IMBEL’s newest rifle, the FAL-inspired 5.56x45mm IA2 is due, despite delays, to begin large-scale production and enter service with the Brazilian Army.

——————————————————-
This could be a big deal, setting up the partnership as a true world player or a big fat failure. Time will tell.
