January 2021 Shatters NICS Firearm Background Check Record

483B0F4A-F745-4EAE-88E6-FABE3BF38E8C.png

The numbers coming in from the FBI this month indicate that the current record for NICS Firearm Background Checks completely shatters every previous year going back to 1998 when records begin with a staggering 4,317,804 background checks being made for the month of January alone.

With everything from civil unrest to panics surrounding the future availability of firearms and ammunition, it is no wonder that many Americans out there are scrambling to try and purchase some self-protection or peace of mind for themselves. From what I have seen across the states, guns are steadily coming in but ammunition is the real bottleneck with the price of ammo skyrocketing to some unreasonable prices from private sellers and local shops alike.

Despite the ammunition shortage, people are still buying firearms. After all, why not buy them when we still can and when the market is more or less keeping up with the demand for new production firearms. What is interesting to note with those numbers from the FBI is that between November 1998 and January 2021 a grand running total of 377,017,185 background checks have been performed by the FBI which means that there are “officially” more firearms than human beings in the United States if we are just going off of official numbers. This number does not include homemade firearmsor firearms transferred from person to person in legal private sales.

It is amazing to me that even though some previous years saw nearly 4 million background checks, none of them quite broke that number. January 2021 alone went well beyond 4 million checks by adding an additional 317,000 checks on top of the already large number. I will be interested to see if this trend continues to pick up or if numbers will start to fall as the situation in 2021 begins to calm down.

Updated Schmeisser S60 Windowed Magazine from American Tactical

Updated Schmeisser S60 Windowed Magazine from American Tactical

American Tactical has just added a window version of their popular Schmeisser S60 magazine. The S60 windowed magazine retains the same great glass-reinforced construction and high capacity but with the added visual round indicator via the windowed portion of the magazine. Full details from ATI below.

Updated Schmeisser S60 Windowed Magazine from American Tactical
New for 2021 – The Schmeisser S60 .223/5.56 60 Round AR-15 Magazine WITH WINDOW!
American Tactical has partnered with German arms manufacturer Schmeisser GmbH to exclusively import and distribute the Schmeisser S60 60 round AR-15 magazine. Made from glass reinforced polymer, this patent pending magazine features a unique follower system that allows for double capacity from a normal AR magazine without being bulky or cumbersome. Designed to shoot both .223 REM & 5.56X45MM, the Schmeisser S60 will give you an instant capacity upgrade over the standard AR mag at an affordable price for your AR Carbine or Pistol.
Now featuring a clear polymer window and a last round bolt hold open integrated in the follower (Upgrade from Gen 1)
Made in Germany
Disclaimer:
The Schmeisser S60 was built specifically for .223REM or 5.56X45MM ammo only. Schmeisser & American Tactical have done some testing and found that the S60 may not operate with all types of .300 Blackout ammo. Due to inconsistencies with different brands, Schmeisser does not recommend using 300 Blackout with this magazine. Failure for the magazine to operate with 300 Blackout is not covered by American Tactical’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

The S60 windowed magazine also retains the generation 2 upgrades that came out around the beginning of 2021. Having a visual indicator of how many rounds you have left inside your magazine is an important feature to me especially with a 60 round magazine. The Schmeisser S60 windowed magazines are available now from American Tactical and retail for $79.95.

(Staccato)
Staccato, formerly STI, have given a state-of-the-union update about what we can expect from them in 2021. The announcement covers people, products and distribution updates. Staccato say that their 2011 pistols have been approved for duty with over 200 law enforcement agencies, new upgrades to the pistols themselves are in the pipeline and they are launching a new online store at Staccato2011.com.

Staccato’s announcement about team, product, and distribution updates can be found below:
In October 2020, Staccato reached a company milestone of its 2011® pistols being approved for duty by over 250 law enforcement agencies across the country. Continuing to receive an overwhelming response from law enforcement, Staccato has since added 30 more agencies to the list. Staccato 2011® pistols are now approved by over 280 agencies. To keep pace with growth in the professional market, Buck Pierson (USMC GySgt ret.) has been promoted from Director to Vice President of Law Enforcement and Military Business. Pierson will expand his team in 2021.
Having exceeded 2020 sales expectations, Staccato’s winning lineup of 2011® pistols will receive updates based on customer feedback and will continue to feature products for a range of solutions: Concealed Carry (Staccato C DPO, Staccato C2, Staccato C2 DPO), Duty and Personal Defense (Staccato P, Staccato P DPO), and the “X” Series for Range and Competition (Staccato XC, Staccato XL).
2021 product updates include the following.
  • New in 2021, all 2011® pistol models are finished with a flush fit 11-degree crown barrel. All models will also include a redesigned slide stop optimized to interact with the magazine follower for flawless, reliable lockback after each and every magazine.
  • Every Staccato P and P DPO, the company’s trusted and reliable duty pistol, will now include the Tactical Advantage magwell as a standard option.
  • The Staccato P DPO and Staccato C2 DPO models will see a price reduction, effective immediately.
  • Factory approved optic mounting plates are now available to support the latest red dot sights from leading manufacturers to include the: Aimpoint ACRO, Holosun 509T, Vortex Razor and the Trijicon RMRcc. The DPO system of course continues to support existing pistol optics from Leupold, Trijicon, Holosun and others.
In addition, all 2021 Staccato pistols include the following continuous improvement updates which were implemented throughout 2020:
  • New DPO optic mounting system with lower profile plates and lower-height co-witness sights.
  • New extractor with improved hook geometry.
  • Dawson aluminum magazine base-pads, which prevent magazine over-insertion coupled with improved magazines.
Finally, Staccato is focused on providing customers the best experience possible while purchasing Staccato 2011® pistols — whether online or at a dealer location.
In 2020 Staccato launched e-commerce capabilities to provide a more seamless, direct buying process for customers. As an extension of these efforts, this year Staccato2011.com will provide online shoppers with opportunities to tailor guns to meet their specific needs and wants. Currently, customers can add available custom options (i.e., DLC barrel, coating). Additional custom options such as threaded barrels and X-series slide cuts for the P and C2 will be added soon.
Staccato also continues to partner with a select group of premier retailers across the country who provide extraordinary experiences in strategic market locations. The company has increased production capabilities to make Staccato 2011® pistols more readily available to retail customers during this time of inventory shortages.
“We are incredibly grateful for the men and women who support us and our mission of protecting and celebrating American freedoms,” Marine Corps veteran Nate Horvath, CEO, Staccato said. “Our team works diligently to back both professional and civilian shooters by delivering the best product possible with the highest level of support and service. I believe our recent improvements will allow us to continue delivering on that promise.”
The company looks forward to another momentous year building reliable, insanely accurate, and easy-to-shoot handguns for all shooters.”

Not Your Average Rubber Band: The New Strike Bang Band

Bang Band

Rubber bands serve many purposes, including powering some very cool “firearms”. Some jobs are even exclusively for rubber bands, like on a tattooing machine or launching small pieces of paper at your math teacher. Our elastic companions have also been used for several purposes in the gun world. Shooters use them to retain slings, keep thigh straps in place, and for cable management. To fill the same roles, while doing a better job, Strike Industries has just released the Strike Bang Band.

Bang Band

The Strike Bang Band secures weapon light/laser cables to help organize your gear while adding an anti-slip surface on your handguard. You can flip the Strike Bang Band so the cable channel guide can be used on the outside or the inside making it reversible and adaptable for your specific setup and needs.
A Rubber Band with Benefits – The Strike Bang Band
Bang Band

Bang Band

Strike Industries has been expanding its line of Cable Management System products, and this is the latest edition. The Strike Bang Band is basically a heavy duty rubber band with features. The main feature is the cable channel. It’s designed to fit into M-LOK slots, so you can reverse the band, keeping your handguard sleek. They’re made of Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) and can withstand temperatures up to 226 degrees Fahrenheit. The anti-slip texture also adds purchase to your handguard. That texture is present on both sides of the bands, so you get the same benefits regardless of how you run them. This can also be a benefit when used on a magazine to keep it from dropping in the dust. For those who use rubber bands to keep their sling, the Bang Band can be used for added tension on your buttstock latch, or when s-rolling your sling.
Bang Band

  • LENGTH: 53.00mm (2.09″)
  • WIDTH: 53.00mm (2.09″)
  • HEIGHT: 14.90mm (0.59″)
  • WEIGHT: 0.3oz (each Bang Band)
Bang Band

A pack of five Bang Bands will cost you $9.95. You can order yours on Strike’s website. To see what else they offer, start on their home page and go down the rabbit hole. For more updates and previews of what’s to come, follow Strike Industries on their Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. Now leave your math teachers alone.

CZ Group Announces Purchase of Colt
February 12th, 2021
CZ Group posted the following announcement to social media.

We are very pleased with another important milestone in the history of the CZ brand. Our parent group CZG has agreed on purchase of the American small arms manufacturer Colt. After the completion of the transaction, the legendary Colt brand will become the new sister company of CZUB.
No word on any US government oversight on the deal, considering government small arms contracts, nor the status of a possible, associated purchase of Colt Canada which could have immediate effects on the upcoming DND pistol tender.
Regardless, the deal should breathe some much needed life into the iconic American brand.

If there is any hope of saving the ole beleaguered pony this is it.
If CZ was smart they would completely gut any and all of upper management and try to retain any of the few remains of the craftsmen that colt still had at the factory.

A little more info:

CZG – Ceská zbrojovka Group SE to acquire Colt

West Hartford, CT, February 12, 2021 – Colt Holding Company LLC (“Colt”) hereby announces that on February 11, 2021, it executed a definitive agreement to be acquired by CZG – Ceská zbrojovka Group SE (“CZG” or “the Group”) Colt is the parent company of U.S. firearms manufacturer, Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC as well as its Canadian subsidiary, Colt Canada Corporation.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the definitive agreement, CZG shall acquire a 100% stake in Colt for upfront cash consideration of $220 million and the issuance of 1,098,620 shares of newly issued CZG common stock. The agreement also provides for potential earnout consideration of up to 1,098,620 shares of newly issued CZG common stock if defined EBITDA thresholds are achieved in years 2021 – 2023.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Lubomír Kovacík, President and Chairman of CZG, said:

“This merger is a strategic step for both companies. The acquisition of Colt, an iconic brand and a benchmark for the military, law enforcement and commercial markets globally, fits perfectly in our strategy to become the leader in the firearms manufacturing industry and a key partner for the armed forces. We are proud to include Colt, which has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the U.S. Army for over 175 years, in our portfolio. We believe in the successful connection of our corporate cultures, the proven track record of the current management team and the complementary nature of the CZ and Colt brands. The combined group will have revenues in excess of USD 500 million and presents a real small arms powerhouse. The experience of CZ and Colt management will further strengthen both brands and ensure CZ and Colt continue to deliver top quality products and solutions to all our customers.”

Dennis Veilleux, President and CEO of Colt, agreed: “We are very pleased with the prospect of such a strategic combination. Having completed a historic turn-around of the operations and financial performance at Colt over the past five years, this important next step with CZG positions the company to take advantage of significant growth opportunities. We are excited to join forces with CZG which will be a powerful combination for both brands and for our customers.”

The acquisition is to be financed from CZG’s existing cash resources, including recent IPO proceeds, and from a contemplated bond issuance by CZG.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval but is anticipated to close in the second quarter of 2021.

With this strategic move, CZG will acquire significant production capacity in the United States and Canada and substantially expand its global customer base. Colt is a traditional supplier to global military and law enforcement customers. Among others, Colt is a long-term supplier to the U.S. Army (which relationship dates back over 175 years) and, through its Canadian subsidiary, Colt is a designated exclusive supplier of small arms to the Canadian military.

Leupold DeltaPoint Pro Gets Larger Red Dot: 6 MOA

Leupold & Stevens, Inc. has announced a new addition to the DeltaPoint Pro line which features a 6-MOA dot. I’ve been using various red dots on handguns for over 10 years, and the first one was actually the original Leupold DeltaPoint on the slide of my Glock 34 Open gun. This was before anyone invented Carry Optics and IPSC Production Optics, a market that now has exploded. I’ve also used twin, in-line, DeltaPoints on my Molot Vepr 12 Shotgun, one zeroed for birdshot and one zeroed for long-range slugs.

I’ve always been an advocate of large dots on handguns, carbines and shotguns so I’m pleased to see the new 6 MOA option. If you haven’t already, you should try a red dot sight with a 6-8 MOA dot.
The Flat Dark Earth (FDE) finish above looks really nice as well.
Below: “Just follow the red dot”

Below you can read their product announcement:
Leupold Adds 6 MOA Model to DeltaPoint Pro Red Dot Line
BEAVERTON, Ore. — Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world’s most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics, is pleased to announce the addition of a new model to its popular DeltaPoint Pro line–one that features a 6-MOA dot.
Designed for competitive speed shooting and personal defense, the larger 6 MOA red dot excels at rapid, close-range target engagement and increases accuracy when it matters most. An incredibly wide field of view and crystal-clear glass dominates the competition, while its rugged aluminum housing and spring steel guard ensure it will perform in the harshest conditions. “The DeltaPoint Pro is the fastest, toughest red dot on the market, and has been used to win pistol competitions around the world,” said John Snodgrass, Tactical Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Shooters asked for a larger dot, something designed to make it even easier to get on target fast at close range.
With the new 6 MOA model, we’ve delivered that in a proven package that’s designed, machined, and assembled right here in the United States.” The DeltaPoint Pro is designed for those who don’t just demand speed, but depend on it. You’ll see more in less light with Leupold’s Professional-Grade Red Dot Optical System, which delivers the light transmission, glare reduction, and resolution that professional shooters demand.
Its design creates an incredible field-of-view that opens up your peripherals and allows you to get on target fast. Like all Leupold red dot sights, the DeltaPoint Pro is supported by the company’s battery-saving Motion Sensor Technology (MST), which puts the sight into a battery-saving standby mode after five minutes of inactivity. When the MST detects motion, it instantly activates the sight so it’s ready when you are. A manual mode allows the sight to shut off when not in use.
The new 6 MOA DeltaPoint Pro will be available both in a Matte Black and Flat Dark Earth (FDE) finish. Waterproof, fogproof, and guaranteed to perform life, the DeltaPoint Pro is designed, machined, and assembled in Leupold’s Beaverton, Ore., factory.
