So why does the olight claim so high of lumens but thats only for the first minute, then it drops to 600 on both the pl-2 and pl pro

There are a bunch of light manufacturers doing that. They have their initial “turbo” mode at max lumens which quickly drops sometimes in seconds.
From what I’ve gathered it’s mainly temperature control and preventing damage to the light.
I think if you use momentary, which is recommended for most applications then it should(?) stay at max lumens.

The new Streamlight TLR1HL has 1000 lumens. I have and like the Streamlights.

how easy is it to work the switch with your thumb when gripping the fore end?
Idk how well i like the rocker switch on the streamlight, im sure is the best for a pistol but on a shotgun or rifle i could see where it would be easy to accidentally turn it on while griping the fore end

I have no problems. On my Scorpion I hit the switch with my finger on a TLR3. Even less real estate than the shotgun’s forend. 840C7BBD-5C02-480D-90CD-656B8C2F1050.jpeg A95B748D-51F3-489E-94A1-514F3EC8673D.jpeg

I e got the Olight Valkyrie Mini. D53542F1-B261-4002-B7BB-F3C988F15412.jpeg
Fantastic light! Great for carry and home defense. Charges fairly quickly and charge lasts. Love how it snaps on and off the gun and adjusts to fit.

The switches on the mini are different from what I’m used to on the Streamlights. They work better on a pistol for activating than on the side like on the CZ scorpion or your shotgun. That’s why I’d probably go with the bigger Olight weapon lights and the optional remote pressure switch would be easier for use on long guns.

Some of the rechargeable lights can also run on cr123's or other size batteries. After owning a rechargeable flashlight its hard for me to go back.

What i think attracts me more towards the olight than the streamlight is that with the push button on the olight when i go down to push the button with my thumb the natural motion of your thumb going down allows you to still squeeze and i can still maintain a grip on the pump, with the tlr1 when i were to use my thumb for momentary by bringing my thumb straight out from pump to work the paddle my natural reaction is for my pinky to try and extend which i think may affect the grip on the pump. It also seems moving your thumb straight down compared to straight out is more comfortable in that with the streamlight you have to keep your thumb extended to hold it in momentary mode while the olight all you have to do is hold it down for momentary, i also think transitioning between off and on will be easier than the streamlight. Another thing is with the streamlight you have to work the paddle in both directions for different modes, rock the paddles to left for momentary or right for constant on. With the olight its push and hold for momentary or push once for constant on, same action for both modes would lead me to believe less of a mixup when trying to activate the light

I think you can adapt and master either light switch system through practice. Your reasoning is sound.

I dont want to sound like a fanboy for olight because i only have a surefire And its on my ar now and love it but i dont have room for a full 5” long flashlight. For some reason the olight looks better and function seems more fluid. Found a 10% off coupon for olight. I can get the olight pl-2 for right at $80 with free shipping

Olight has been making a name for itself. Even though they have a heck of a marketing campaign I’ve only seen positive reviews around the net and on YouTube. Like Holosun, these wouldn’t be as popular if they didn’t work as advertised.
I tend to put Streamlight a step above Olight as they pretty much set the standard for Law Enforcement and I’ve used them for 20 some years.
I rate Surefire a step above Streamlight as they set the standard for the military.
