Did you try using something to pop the button on the other side? It should be snapped on and usually you can just snap it right off.

Wrap the bottom of the grip in painters tape to protect it. Use a small punch or screw driver to push the pin inwards while using a small screw driver to gently pry up. Pry on the same side as the release button. The tape protects the grip from the prying metal.
