How can you tell a G17 extractor from a G22 extractor ?

No markings on extractors. And you can run the old 90 degree extractor in a newer gun with the right spring loaded bearing. You can measure the claw depth. The 40S&W is about .016" deeper than a 9mm. The rim diameter on a 9mm is .392" and the 40S&W is .424", but the machined recess is the same diameter for both at .346". In reality they both work, that's why most of the time a conversion barrel does not need a 9mm extractor.

That's what I meant. The original cast steel extractors had no impression markings. I had one chip after about 200K, and replaced it with a MIM. Only lasted about 20K rounds. Bought 4 of the cast steel ones on ebay for $10 apiece.
