I got the 2 mixed up and what I'm doing is trying to figure out which is which ? I was converting a G22 to a G17 with a conversion barrel. How can I tell one from the other without having a .40S&W cartridge to slide up under it ? All I have around here are 9mm and 45acp. And before people start talking , I know my conversion barrel is drop-in and and will work with regular parts but the 9mm extractor works a little stronger. They are both generation 3 .

No markings on extractors. And you can run the old 90 degree extractor in a newer gun with the right spring loaded bearing. You can measure the claw depth. The 40S&W is about .016" deeper than a 9mm. The rim diameter on a 9mm is .392" and the 40S&W is .424", but the machined recess is the same diameter for both at .346". In reality they both work, that's why most of the time a conversion barrel does not need a 9mm extractor.
