34 will be a pain in the butt every time you sit down in the car, only way around it is a super high ride holster.

Both would make a great duty pistol, IMO, but if you don't like high ride holsters I'd stick to the G17
Welcome to the Glock Forum IrishRifles !!

Thread moved to correct sub forum...
Ya I'd hate to have to have a G34 on my hip all day. Its a HELL of a weapon, just longer barrel makes it a pain.
I have not seen the gen 4, but my wife's gen 3 glock 34 came from factory with the extended mag release. This sticks out more, and I've read that many folks switch it out to a non extended version, so it doesn't hit against their holster, causing the magazine to fall out when the handgun is drawn from the holster. I had hers swapped because it was digging into her hands at the range.

Just something to think about if you end up with a 34 and it has the extended magazine release...
For duty, I would just go with the G17. If you wanted to shoot competitions, the 34 is the way to roll. Just my .02 cents worth! :)
I prefer my 35 about a thousand to one over a 22 for patrol/ tac use. I'm in the process of swapping everything over to 9mm, so I guess I'll soon be saying that I prefer the 34 to the 17. The difference in "comfort" is negligible in my very humble opinion.

I purchased the conversion barrel for my 35, but I haven't shot it yet though!!! I do love my 35 though!!!! Have you done anything yet besides converting it?
I have never owned a Glock before. I've been contemplating a new duty weapon. I am torn between the Glock G17 Gen4 and the G34 Gen4. From actual experiences, any suggestions about either of the two?
My on duty is a G17 Gen3, can't speak for the Gen4, but I love it.

I also want to buy a G34, however strictly for shooting comps I'm in.

Are the shooting comps fun? Do they have a beginners comp? I've always wanted to go, but it seems the nearest one is like 2 hours away!!!

They're a good time and more importantly they're good practice. I'm fortunate enough to have a regular summer match about 20mins from home.
That is high! LE price should by $400-425 + tax
And I have a 17 gen 4 and love it! You cannot go wrong with the original model of Glock :)
Non-reversible mag release, different grip texture, no dual recoil spring assembly. That being said the Gen3 is still awesome. Look at price but more importantly figure out which feels better. The Gen4 also gives you the multiple back strap system so you can adjust the grip.

What he said..........

I'll add, I have larger hands so the backstraps were a moot point for me. I've shot the Gen3 and Gen4, I couldn't tell much difference with the recoil spring. I'm sure there's some measurable difference but I couldn't feel it. And it's a 9mm so not much kick regardless.
