I went to the dealer to look at a glock 30 gen 3. I wanted it but they didn't have the blue label glock 30 and I was not going to pay full price since they offer the discount to military. They let me fill out my background check without purchasing a gun. They said they would contact glock and get it shipped to me. Well they just called and told me that a distributor has a gen 4 glock 30 and they wanted to know if I would be interested in that instead, they said it was the same price and could have it shipped overnight. What is the difference between the two and which in your opinion is better? Does the gen 4 usually cost more? Are they giving me a deal or is the older gen 3 a per say better pistol? I told them to have the gen 4 shipped but I want everyone's opinion before I purchase. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I apologize for the long write up. Thanks in advance.

Gen.4 models usually go for a little more. All gen.4 models have 3 changeable back straps. First back strap is thinner than regular Glock grip, second is like regular Glock grip, and third is more like a Sig grip. Also all gen.4 models have dual recoil spring assemblies. The gen.3 30 also has a DRSA, as do all subcompact gen.3 models. Also Gen.4 has a larger mag release that can be switched to the right side or left side of the gun. Lastly the grip texture is different then Gen.3. If I had to choose out of the 30 models, in order the 30S, 30sf, 30 Gen.4, and last the regular Gen.3 30. If you like the texture of the gen.4 Glocks, the 30 Gen.4 is probably your best bet.

Picture shows the lower half of Gen.1, 2, 3, RTF2, and 4th generation Glocks.

Gen 4 grip is a lot better than the Gen 3 and the mag release is easier to use. Other than that no real difference at all. I know a few guys who like the grip so much that they would pay more, and the Gen 4 is more money, depending on usage/condition. Can't lose with either.

This dude gave you good info. Only thing that MAY be confusing is the backstraps. Only two come with that you can change. Number one is part of the weapon. The two that come with it you can put on there to see if you like it better. So three choices, two additional straps.
Not trying to take a jab at this guys info he gave you. It is on point.

Also what is DRSA?
SF= Short Frame. Which is a slight reduction in the handle of a normal 30. Pic of SF 30.

The 30S is new for 2013 it is basically a G-30sf with a 36 slide on it.

I believe the Gen.4 with no added back straps is like a short frame model. I didn't take it personally. OP asked for accurate info to make an expensive decision. I am happy you made the back straps clear. I re-read what I posted and by saying 1-3 it made it sound like there was three back straps. If the OP gets the Gen.4 please post some pics for us : )

How much did it run u if u don't mind me asking n how u like the gen4 grip compared to gen3
$491. I like grip, I have never held both gens side by side and this is my first glock/handgun so I wouldn't be the best to ask but I do love the gun and the grip feels great.

I really like the gen 4 models, both my glocks are gen 4 and when I bought a gen 3 the wife and I both didn't like it as much and took it back. Great purchase and great price, you'll be very happy with it I'm sure.

Awesome write up by the way Lucian!

And the members here are always awesome and I"ve seldom seen any that are condencending or rude. Unlike other sites I've seen where if you ask a question most reponses will be to search before you post with snide comments to follow.

I'm really interested in the 30 models and will likely get a gen 4 G30s when they come out. I always go to Glock's site to look at the differences.
