The advantage of this would be that you wouldn't also need custom holsters. Any OWB and most other holsters would work fine.
I seem to recall seeing something similar with a picatinny rail instead of flashlight ring.

Having never used it, I can't speak for it, but for $22, it might be worth a shot.
If I were going to install a rail on the gun itself, I think I'd shape an off-the-shelf picatinny rail and epoxy it to the frame or a floorplate, with slots cut to see the serial number or access the hole in the floorplate.
