I've noticed that my G17 is rather consistently putting rounds to the left, and before you tell me it is a trigger control issue, or grip, let me explain a bit more.

I've been shooting pistols, all kinds, for quite some time and I have come to the point where I can see when I make a mistake, but with the G17, no matter how close I am, or far away, it is putting rounds consistently to the left, to the point where when/if I want to try to get them on the bullseye or close to it, I have to hold off to the right.

I noticed yesterday that the rear sight is flush on the right side, but is over by about a millimeter on the left.

Any suggestions/ideas?

I'll be putting up a video later today and you see more clearly what I'm talking about, but I hope this is enough info to get some suggestions.

I take it you've bench rested the G17 to sight it in and confirm that it's not trigger pull or anything like that. Understanding that you're an experience pistolero, I am definitely not saying it's your skill. I AM saying it's is part of the troubleshooting process.

Your description of the rear sight sounds odd. Try centering it and then bench resting it again to see where it comes up.

keep in mind the old adage, "rear same, front opposite".

GOod luck with it.

If you don't have a bore sight tool, see if you can borrow one to help in reseting the rear sight, it might speed up the process a bit.

Are you saying the rear sight is all the way over to the right? Then we have a problem since you move the rear sight the direction you want the impact to move. And since it is shooting far left, you have no place to move it. Just for grins, is your front sight post centered in the slide? Maybe I got something confused here. A picture would help..

i've always shot "well" with my 19 but last trip was shooting to the left. figured out i bumped the front sight and it was crooked. straightened it up with some pliers and everything was fine.

I was doing the same thing! I had to loosen my grip with my trigger hand and use more grip with my support hand. I now hit dead center. Try it very very slow at first until you can see it working the. Slowly work up to normal speed. Practice dry firing as well. It takes a few weeks to master. Good luck.

Rear sight pusher tool, I had the same problem with my issued G22 when we switched from gen2 to gen 3. I looked like the rear was pretty much centered, but I had our armorer push it over and she shoots straight as can be now.

I'll try the grip adjustments, and if that doesn't do it, I'll try pushing the sight.

Do you have a link to the tool?

If you are impacting the target LEFT and your REAR sight is all the way to the RIGHT and it's not YOU...we have a problem. Since you would drift the sight to the RIGHT to move POI to the RIGHT.
Move REAR sight LEFT...POI moves LEFT.
Move REAR sight RIGHT POI moves RIGHT.
The opposite is true for the FRONT sight.

I agree with the others save some ammo center your rear sight first . you can use a punch and just tap it . its not hard ive used that to replace rear sights.once you have it centered shoot a few rounds and if still off move rear sight in direction that the POI you'll be just fine

I am surprised no one has posted the shooting diagram yet, I'll add it to the forum as soon as I get home.

Looks like I had it on my phone after all. Hope this helps I did for me. Print it out and use it as a target.

that is a great target, and normally I would post it, but the OP states that he is experienced with handguns and does not have the issue with other handguns.

I've had similar problems shooting left. I noticed my front side slightly turned like someone mentioned above and it seems to fix it, but I feel I might be aiming higher and to the right to compensate for low left hits. Out of a glock 19.

+1. The OP states he's an experience shooter and is making shooting adjustments.

It still may help him figure out what he's doing wrong with the 17. Maybe his grip or finger placement is slightly different with the 17.

I'd try it if all else fails

I hope others wandering in here with the same problem will find it useful

Definitely. I use that each time I go to the range. I have a big stack of them printed and stored in my range bag.

Good idea I should probably do the same! I often over hear people struggling, it would be great to hand one over to help out.
