Drop free Mags - G23

What does drop free mean?

Well on my 10 round mags when they are empty I press the mag release the mag falls from the gun without any help. My 13 round mags don't do that. I have to physically pull them out with my hand after I press the mag release.

I hope I explained this right.

Hmm
Just tried my Gen4 G23. Just to make sure, I really never payed any attention to that. I hit the mag release button and the mag just fell out. Maybe a call in to Glock or something would fix that.

Do they look and feel the same? I have used my 15 round mags in my FIL G 27 and they work fine. Are your 13 rd. mags Glock or aftermarket? Pics???

I have no problems with the factory mags in my Gen 4 23 with having to pull them out after mag release has been pressed when empty.

Learn something new every day... all 5 of mine drop.

Both 13 round mags are Glock factory mags. I will take pictures and post them on here soon. Thank you for all of your input.

What's the number?

Early mags weren't drop free. I don't remember all the details but maybe yours are early model mags. Have u compared them to a mag that falls freely? If they are earlier mags the body will be different.

Is the G23 a Gen 3 or Gen 4? Gen 3 or 4 mags?
I thought I heard about Gen 3 mags in a Gen 4 gun don't play nice together. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the right or left side mag release option or not.

Gen3 mags works in Gen4 if it remains a righty. If you go lefty they won't.

What are the numbers on the followers, specifically the part of the follower that engages the slide stop to lock the slide back?

Early Glock magazines didn't drop free. The newest magazines are supposed to drop free, but with some of them there seems to be a quality control problem where the metal liner wasn't sealed properly and the magazine will bulge, making it so it doesn't drop free. If they're newer magazines, your only choice is to buy new ones and hope they drop free.

My G23 is a Gen 3. I am going to compare the 13's to my 10's and see if I can tell the difference. Pics to follow soon.

the mags were designed by Gaston Glock not to drop free! It was the US market that made this request and he buckled to it. They would bulge slightly when full or partial loaded so you wouldn't drop the mag accidently with live rounds in it.

So, do they make a drop free 13 round mag now? Just curious. I would much rather use the 13's than the 10's.

They may be pre-ban mags.
