Can someone give me a clue as to the difference is between these 2 .45cal. rounds as far as ballistics, powder, etc.

The GAP was slightly a shorter round with a thicker casing. Shorter to fit in smaller sub compact firearms. The stopping power is the same between the two rounds. The GAP's are loaded to the equivalent of the .45 acp +p. if you're needing a subcompact with the .45gap and don't mind paying more for the ammo or reloading, go for it. Anything else, I'd definitely stick with the .45 ACP.
100 fps. It came about so the grip could be a little smaller.

Nope. I buy factory UMC 230 grain and it's a buck and some change cheaper than the ACP in the same load.

Fits in a 9mm frame, shoots a 45 and is cheaper to shoot than ACP. I am definitely sticking with GAP. Kinda makes the 40 inane. Because it puts for real 45 power in a 9mm framed pistol. Bonus is times have caught up with the caliber and it is now cheaper to shoot than ACP. I know because I supply all my own ammo for it.

You are only perpetuating myths. Does no one any good.

You are perpetuating myths also, by saying it makes the 40 inane.

No I'm not. Back in 1990 when it came out we didn't have the powders to make a short 45 with the same ballistics, internal and external. Now we do. A compromise had to come up with and we got the 40. It was marketed and sold as the caliber that fits into a 9mm frame with the same "power" as a 45. It's 180 grain loads are not as fast as 185 GAP loads and you cannt shoot 230s from a 40.

It's a fact. The GAP puts real, not compromise 45 power in a 9mm frame. It's too easy to understand.

The GAP fits in a 9mm frame just like the 40 does. Only difference is the GAP shoots a 45 caliber projectile in the same weights as an ACP does. The 40 cannt and never will do that. A fact is a fact. Real 45 power from a 9mm frame pistol or compromise wants to be a 45 in a 9mm pistol. make your choice.

I made my choice. Real 45s from a real 9mm frame. No need to compromise anymore. You can make your own choice for any reason you want. The facts I stated above can not be disputed no matter how much emotion anyone has with the 40.......

Real life shoot outs with real people not paper show there is virtually no differences in 9 vs 40 vs 45. The total awesomeness of the 45 is one of the biggest myths out there. And the 40 came out due to 2 things, FBI's humongous tactical failure and S&W being on the verge of going under. It fixed a "problem" that didn't exist.

Funny you mention them almost going under. S&W is a joke these days. They make more variations of Glocks than Glock does. Sigma, M&P, and the SD. They also make 1911s. They have no originality to them in their design department. All they can do is copy copy copy anymore.

Also Smith would have just given up on the 40 if Gaston would have not perfected it before them and getting pistols to market before S&W did. Their old 3rd gen auto loaders were fine pistols. They trash a line before it can even catch on and take off.

Their revolvers on the other hand are fine pistols I would proudly own. Their autoloaders have been designed and perfected by the companies they copied. I will stick with the originals TYVM!!

Could you be any more redundant? Could you possibly use the words '45 in a 9mm' and 'compromise' any more times? Your argument is decent, your execution of your argument makes you sound like a rambling fool.

Slow down brother.

GAP might be a touch cheaper due to less demand, but because of that demand level there is also less of it out there and availability is often a concern: stores dont carry large inventories of what doesn't sell as fast.
I want one for a collection, but never for practical use. I know someone on this board loves using the phrase "Stay away from non-nato rounds as they will be impossible to find when the SHTF". I may be paraphrasing slightly :D

Reminds me of 09. For almost the entire year there was no 9x19mm, 7.62 NATO, 5.56 NATO or 45 to be had anywhere.

Never had a problem finding 7.62 tokarev, 9mm Makarov, 357SIG, 40S&W, 10mm or 45 GAP. I would say it would be the other way around. When it happens everyone that owns popular calibers will be the ones SOL.

I know. Some people can not understand things the first time. They need constant reminding. If you don't need it and get it the first time don't worry about it.

There's a huge difference between reiteration and redundancy. You were excessively redundant.
And then.........
The gap was Glocks attempt at their own round ....probably their worst idea...to me there was no reason for it...the 45 ACP, and 40 S&W had it covered...in my opinion its a dud! Buying it as a collectable isn't a bad idea but in my opinion you would be better off buying 1st Generation Glocks as collectables...

I couldn't agree more. 10% of the countries state police issue the ACP. That's a pretty good chunk seeing the cartridge has been around since 1905.

Fast forward to 2012, 9 years after the release of the GAP and there is another 10% of this countries states that issue the GAP. 107 years and a 10% of the states for the ACP......... 9 years and 10% of the states are issued the GAP.....

Yes I agree that is a dud for sure. Only problem I see with that logic is if it's true for the GAP, it's true for the ACP, if not more true seeing it has a 98 year head start........

Well, now I never considered that...I do have a 1st Gen G23...what would that be worth, I wonder?

Good point! One question... How many local PDs and SOs carry GAPs?
