Parkland students announce gun control plan, aim to halve gun violence rate in 10 years

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday morning, March for Our Lives, the gun control movement started by student survivors of last year's school shooting that left 17 students and faculty dead in February 2018 in Parkland, Florida, announced a package of gun control measures.
The package, called a "Peace Plan for a Safer America," presents a six-part plan to address "the deadly epidemic of gun violence."
The comprehensive gun control plan would aim to "halve the rate of gun deaths in 10 years" by passing national gun control legislation, starting FEC and IRS investigations into the National Rifle Association, and appointing a National Director of Gun Violence Prevention, among other provisions.
The plan aimed to mobilize young Americans by calling for the creation of a "Peace Corps for gun violence prevention," and automatically registering and mailing voter registration cards to all Americans when they turn 18.
"A Green New Deal, but for guns," quipped March for Our Lives co-founder Jaclyn Corin.
"Policymakers have failed, so survivors are stepping up," wrote March for Our Lives co-founder David Hogg on Twitter. "We’re not just fighting against the status quo, we’re fighting for real change, for justice, for peace."
"We need leaders – in the White House, in Congress, and on the Supreme Court – who care about the future of our children and our nation. We call on every Presidential candidate for the 2020 election to endorse our Peace Plan for a Safer America," the group wrote in the plan.
President Donald Trump has signaled he would back away from supporting enhanced background checks for firearm sales despite previous statements indicating some support for background check measures.
"The next President must act with a fierce urgency to call this crisis what it is: a national public health emergency," they added.
Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-Texas, wrote on Twitter, "I support their Peace Plan For A Safer America—and I call on everyone else in this race to do the same."

I vote for policy, not for who the people are as a person. I`m a RED voter, always have been, but i can`t stand trump, but he is on the RED ticket, he gets my vote because i dont like democrats, at all, i never liked democrats for their policies, ideologies. Just think about how much farther ahead we would be if trump would just shut his mouth and just do what we hired him to do.
What happened to that guy on the 2015 campaign trail that said he was not going to tell people what he was going to do, he was just going to just get the job done. That guy got left on the campaign trail in 2015. Trump is doing a fantastic job on most everything, his mouth, not so much. The man is an a-hole. But i have to vote for him because he IS, the ONLY choice, on the RED ticket. If he pulls off the win in 2020, i`ll be a little bit surprised, because he has turned off ALOT of voters. But if he loses, that wont surprise me one bit. Two reason`s he can lose, his mouth, and cheating democrats. We lost the house because of his stupid mouth. Will we now lose the senate AND the whitehouse this time around? This election shouldn`t even be as close for the democrats in winning, if trump would just shut his stupid mouth with all the rhetoric spewing from it.
This country WILL fall to the socialists eventually. All those indoctrinated children WILL be voting very soon. We are on borrowed time. The education system is what tore this country apart. FIFYSince the government is about spending taxes, only those that pay PROPERTY & SCHOOL taxes should be allowed to vote, regardless of age.
Anyone paying property & school taxes, raising a family, and works for a living supporting their family, and does it without help from anyone else, those are the people that should be the only people that should be voting. Retired folks should be voting as well, and i think most do. They`ve paid their dues. These little punks that live with mommy, should NOT have ANY right to decide whats right for the rest of the country, especially hard working folks that WORK for a living.

I agree with what you stated. But just to bring it to light - our healthcare system was always and has been designed to fail. That way the govt can say; "seeeeeeee, it dosent work - now we`ll fix it for you". There is NOTHING WORSE, than letting the govt get their hands on anything. Everything they touch turns to sh!t. But since we have a bunch of freeloaders AND illegals in this country, pumping out useless humans from between their legs, they will continue to be a drain on the system, as well as our country. Socialized healthcare, it is well on its way.It seems to me that Healthcare started going downhill right around the time HMO’s started which I think was sometime around the mid to late 80’s. You weren’t even allowed to use common sense after that. Let’s say you had an eye injury and you knew you needed to see an eye doctor, but you still had to see your primary care physician first, and then get a referral to an eye doctor. It’s just another way to have an extra doctor stick their hand in the pie.
