Glock is my first, and currently only, handgun. I love my 21SF but I wouldn't consider myself a Glock Fanboy to the exclusion of other firearm makes and brands. Lately, I've been experiencing an inexplicable mesmerization over the 1911. In casual reading around the net, it seems the 1911 Superfan is just as ardent as the Glock Superfan (or the Springfield Superfan or any other Superfan).

I'm wondering what the big deal is about 1911s?

My question would be the same as someone else asking, "What's the big deal about Glocks?" Not accusatory or instigatory in tone, as a relative rookie to firearms in general, I'm genuinely curious about the 1911.

(Side question: I saw a picture of another GlockForum member's collection of what seemed to be a hundred 1911s. Can anyone help re-point me toward that thread? You can't search on images and I don't recall the member's name.)

The history behind the 1911 and the long jevity. Plus, shoot a quality made 1911 and you will smile. I am a big fan of both the Glocks and 1911.

I have several. It just feels great in the hand. Classic, history and mystique. Being an American I think it's lines become a standard of beauty ingrained early on.

My old Combat Elite
That is amazing can you please tell me more about it, make model, cost?

I know very little about 1911s but like op I am coming increasingly memorized by them

The Model 1911 is a single action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, and short recoil-operated handgun chambered for the .45ACP cartridge.

The firearm genius of our century... John Moses Browning... designed the firearm which was to become the standard-issue side arm for the US Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. It was adopted by the US Army on March 29th, 1911...and with some external modifications being completed in 1924, was formally classified as the Model 1911a1.

100+ years later the design stands as a testimony to it's greatness...

It's a Colt made in the mid 1980's model name Combat Elite, I traded it for a Springfield 1911 in the mid 90's
They made them for a while

How you like the Auto Ordnance 1911PKZ, Shooter? It seems like a good 1911 that doesn't cost an arm an a leg.

Edit: I see you have no safety's on your 1911's.

Kahr bought them out and their quality control is excellent now.

Kahr all so bought out Magnum Research and made a usa made desert eagle mark xix. So that is all my experience with Kahr.

Did you build that? Are 1911s like AR's where you can build them from the ground up? Sorry forgive my lack of 1911 knowledge but I am intrigued

I didn't build it. It is custom and shoots incredibly. People have been hotrodding 1911's for generations. Mild to Wild but Glocks are a little easier and cheaper to mod IMHO.
