The can interchange mags right?
No. Technically you probably could load 9mm rounds into a G22 mag but I wouldn't expect it to be reliable or put my life on it.
you can put G17 mags in a G22.
That's true, you can insert the G17 mag into the G22 but are you suggesting that you can actually use and fire 40 S&W from a G17, 9mm, magazine?
If you get a G17 slide assembly, you can use the Glock 17 mag in the Glock 22 frame. Now, don't forget the extractor is different (curved for the 9mm and straight for the .40).
Don't know if that was what you were asking.
9mm luger with installation of conversion barrel
So the barrel conversion from .40 to 9mm won't work unless the whole slide assembly is changed?
No, conversion barrels are made to fit the existing slide. You may get some ejection issues but it should be fine for range use.
Then yes, you can use G17 mags if you're running a 9mm conversion barrel. Are you planning on running this configuration for practice or are you planning on carrying/home defense here?
I am not sure, did I say this?
Just for range practice & fun only. Nothing but .40 for carry.
