Default Us vs austrian made glocks

I was just asked by my cousin from the Philippine Island which Glock to buy, US or AUSTRIAN made? Being from California, did not know that the US now produces Glocks. As far as I can remember, the only ones that I know of are the aluminum frame Glocks.

So, which one is better? What are the differences?

I think the only difference is the finish on the slide. The chemicals they use to treat the slide in Austria is illegal here in the states. The treatment they use here is a little different but I'm pretty positive it's just as strong. If there is more differences between us made and Austrian glocks then I'm not aware of it.

Thanks! I needed to know that. Because there is a big price jump. US is only about $800 and AUSTRIAN is about $1200.

Wow this prices are WAY high. I paid 600 for my glock 19. Maybe the large price jump between us and Austrian made glocks has to do with the costs of it being imported since the distance is a lot further. Where do you live? If you don't mind me asking.

What are the chemicals? Can't help my curiosity. Others have said manufacturing quality is better on USA Glocks, evidenced by lack of tooling marks. I have not personally compared any, but I do see tool marks under my Austrian made slide.

If you can get the USA made model $400 less, go for it.

[Edit: dollar value "less".]

I couldn't tell you what the chemicals are. Sorry, im just relaying what I've heard in different forums over the last few years. I do know that I've seen and shot both us and Austrian made glocks and neither seemed any different to me.

The USA Glocks are made too Austrian spec. The Tenifer finish has been abandoned due to the use or byproducts of cyanide. Supposedly the finish was changed in Austria also. So other than the USA and proof marks they should be the same.

As Danzig posted, the guns are identical minus the stamp on the slide and molded into the frame. I was told the Tenifer finish didn't actually contain cyanide, but the process produced vapors which contained trace elements of cyanide. Glock has abandoned the original process.

I'm in California. But my cousin that wants to buy a Glock is in the Philippines. More red tape, more money to import. More government FEES. Thanks for all the input. Great info.
