Default Have a G17, what's next?

Greetings everyone!

I am getting back into the shooting sports after quite a long absence. I have a G17 Gen1 that I have only just begun shooting. I acquired it 7 years ago when my brother passed away. I really enjoy shooting it and how it handles. I've actually put the little Smith snubbie in the safe and carry the G17 off body in a small day planner case under my arm.

As expected, I now want to add to my collection, already. I have never done any competitive style shooting, just typical target shooting at the range. I would like to begin shooting GSSF and/or IDPA or something.

Question: Having a G17, is there any reason to have a G34 too? I like the thoughts of a G41 also. I would either that or the G17 for meets. I considered the G19 but find carrying the G17 off body or the Smith .38 covers my carry. Also, I am looking at the M&P Shield 9 to add as a carry gun.

What direction would everyone go in for a second Glock pistol?

Thank you!!

For a CC Glock, it's hard to beat the 26 or 19. The 26 is my EDC. And, yes the 34 would be a great competition gun.

As for single stack 9mm carry piece, the new striker-fired Ruger LC9s is getting rave reviews for it's improved trigger over the original hammer-fired LC9. And it can be had for $400. Hard to beat that.

For competitions the 17 will suit you for now, pick up the 34 later if that's the direction you want to go. The 17 & 34 also share the same mags which is nice.

For carry the M&P Shield is a nice choice, I find it more comfortable than the 26. Also check out the Ruger LC9s, it's a tad smaller/lighter than the Shield but large enough to get a full hand on the grip.

For .45auto everyone seems to love their 21SF.

I am not a fan of S&W triggers. I am told the Shield's trigger is above par of the rest of the M&P line? I would rent both G26 & Shield 9. Just to get the feel. I do like shooting my Glocks and have shot M&P's in the past but never a Shield.

I depends on what you need anther gun for.
Competition: G17, unless you prefer the heavier CZ SP01
For daily CC: G26 or G19 are absolutely unbeatable.
