Fwiw, I have a shield 9mm (and a g43).

The shield is a great gun.

The shield is also heavier and larger than the g43. The g43 shares the same design as all glocks: easy to completely disassemble and easy/cheap replacement parts. The shield not so much: removing the rear sight to get the safety plunger out is ridiculous (and prone to error).

There is much to like about the shield, but mine always stays home while my g43 rides on my hip.

Yes there is no question Glocks are great guns. Truth, some people want the "option" of an external safety. The Shield has a little less recoil for a small gun. We're talking millimeters and a couple ounces difference between the 43 and the Shield. We're also talking hundreds of dollars difference in cost.
I'm not a die hard over S&W, or Glocks. I love both, my G19 and my Shield. I bought my Glock first and knew it was the only pistol I'd ever want. Then I began to learn. It's wonderful to have choices. Rock on with the freedom to choose. I love this forum. Guns are great in the right hands. Sport or self defense, they broaden our views and passions. MAGA!!!
