Personally, I have never had a problem with anyone seeing my serial numbers. None of my guns are stolen, so no one can claim them as theirs. If a person looks at the various online sites such as gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com, gunauction.com, etc., serial numbers are often prominently shown and noted. I have never heard of anyone having a problem, but there may be problems that I have not heard of or read of.

Right? I'll remember from now on.

Update: I found a S&W forum discussion on this topic at the link below -

I read that someone was concerned about another person finding out the VIN and / or license plate number on their vehicle. I just don't see the issue. VINs are visible to anyone walking up to the windshield and plates are not concealed and many states offer the registration info online for a small fee. I may not like that, but it is done..

One more thought -
Thinking about this for a few minutes, I think that with the Internet offering so many resources nowadays, it isn't too hard to find out a lot of information that we think is / or should be confidential. I am amazed at what's out there. I Googled my own name and was quite surprised at the returns. That said, I don't think I have anything that someone would want badly enough to do an online criminal act to get it. Now, if I win the LOTTO, I may change my mind....

I pretty much pick what ever I'm in the mood for. The 17-L is missing from the photo. But I won't be carrying that.
