Anyone recommend how often to clean them? I have couple of buddies that will not go without cleaning after every use. Clean and oil.


I have a 4 year old that I don't want to find out I own a gun. So in other words I don't want to bust out my gun and clean it in front of him.

I bought mine brand new a month ago. I just recently put 150 rounds through it. I feel clean after every use is excessive. Any thoughts?

Hmmm...there's a bunch of threads that deal with this topic, but here goes:

I clean after each and every firing. Since I use ultrasonics to clean, there is no scrubbing with brushes or any of that, no stinky chemicals, no splattering solvents, nothing. Disassemble the gun, drop the parts into the cleaner tub with cleaning agent and water, turn it on, agitate, take em out, rinse in hot tapwater, blow-dry with compressor, lube and reassemble. Done.

If my life depended on a piece of equipment, I would want to do all I can to ensure that piece of equipment was clean and functioned properly.

I clean mine every time it's used. My wife, daughter, and I may some day depend on it. Sure, it's a Glock... but 'GLOCK' states in the manual to clean every time. Can't tell me the people who built it are wrong! (here's where a bunch of people tell me I'm wrong...)
As an 'aside,' having been in the military just adds to my cleaning compulsion. We cleaned weapons in the field no matter how primitive the conditions.

I also clean mine after each use! I normally go though 1,000 rounds each month half though the 23 & the other half though my 27. I don't care what anyone says. Their my guns & I'll clean them when I want

I clean them as well after every trip to the range. I am not telling you how to raise your children, but your kid will eventually find it. A lot of people say to kill their curiosity of firearms by teaching them about them. Maybe even buy a bb gun or a .22 for your kid and teach them how to handle it safely and keep the firearms in a quality safe.

Not offended by your suggestion on my kid. That's a whole different topic id rather not get into.

I guess cleaning after every time is the way to go. I tried searching before posting. Some reason I didn't see anything with this plain as day question.

Part of the fun of going to the range is the fact that Im gonna get to clean my Glock afterwards.

So yes... every time I shoot it gets cleaned.

By searching you may find a large number of opinions & methods. People that say to not clean often, people that don't ever oil them, and people that don't care! Short of being able to use ultrasonic cleaning, following the manual is a 'best bet.'

Very true. Thanks for the insight. This is the first I've heard of ultrasonics. Very interesting.
